4th Symposium of Regenerative Viticulture

How can we make our vineyards resilient and survive drought? The 4th Symposium on Regenerative Viticulture, organized with the support of INNOVI, will address different strategies for a better use of water resources and greater water retention in soils. Experts and academics will talk about the impact of drought, the evolution of the climate and adaptation to the climate crisis through strategies such as respectful pruning, plant covers, agroforestry, keyline design or syntropic agriculture.

Dra. Mª Carmen Llasat

She holds a PhD in Physical Sciences from the UB and is an expert in meteorological risks and climate change. She leads the Group for the Analysis of Adverse Meteorological Situations (GAMA) and is part of the Executive Committee of the HUB on Global Sustainability of the UB. She actively participates in scientific dissemination, is a member of important scientific committees and has chaired the Natural Hazards Section of the European Geophysical Society. With more than 200 publications on topics such as hydrometeorology, climate change and its social impacts, she has contributed to IPCC and MedECC reports, especially on the Mediterranean region, also playing a key role in university education and directing doctoral theses.

With research stays in Germany and especially in Switzerland (at the Research Institute for Ecological Agriculture, FiBL) she has worked both in Mediterranean, temperate and tropical regions developing and evaluating innovative management strategies to minimize the environmental impact of agriculture

Dra. Elena Baraza

Dedicated to research in ecology since 2000, she is currently a professor of Ecology at the University of the Balearic Islands and a researcher at the Institute of Agro-environmental Research and Water Economy, one of the lines of research being viticulture from the perspective of improving efficiency in the use of water and finding management systems that allow the development of more sustainable viticulture adapted to climate change. She is also a member of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change and the Committee of Experts for the Energy Transition and Climate Change of the Balearic Islands.

Julián Palacios

An agricultural engineer and winegrower from San Martín de Unx (Navarra), he represents a new generation of professionals who are in love with vines and who promote respectful viticulture, the conservation of ancestral pruning techniques and the appreciation of the work of winegrowers. He founded Viticultura Viva to help wineries improve the balance of their vineyards and extend the life of the vines. He organises the viticulture conferences ‘How to care for vineyards so that they live for 100 years’, is co-creator of the podcast ‘La Filoxera’ and producer of the documentary "Las Podas Olvidadas".

He has a diploma in permaculture and specializes in the design of productive and diverse agricultural systems. In 2013 he co-founded the Mas Les Vinyes Cooperative, where they produce lamb, fruit and vegetables. He teaches courses on permaculture, food sovereignty and regenerative agroforestry. Since 2013, he has been involved in Iberian Permaculture and since 2020 in the BiorNE (the Northeast Bioregion of Iberian Permaculture).

He manages and works at his family farm Can Font, in Empordà, and is technical director of Son Felip i Algaiarens, in Menorca.

Francesc Font

1st Regenerative Viticulture Conference

Coinciding with the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, held annually on 17 June, Vilafranca del Penedès welcomed the 1st Regenerative Viticulture Conference. It aligned perfectly with the World Day’s 2021 theme, focused on transforming degraded land into healthy land.
